Course Description:

 

Wound Care Symposium: Wound Care Litigation.

This presentation will discuss what plaintiff and defense attorneys need from the LNC in preparation of a wound care case including:

bullet Pre-suit expert
bullet Affidavit process
bullet Testifying expert.

 

In addition each attorney will discuss marketing techniques for Legal Nurse Consultants including:

 

bullet Marketing self as an expert
bullet Getting past attorney gatekeepers. 

 

Plaintiff and Defense case studies will be discussed. In addition,  the presentation will review key points to wound care litigation such as:

 

bullet Relevant Chapter 400 statutes
bullet Preventable versus unpreventable wounds
bullet Specific strategies used by plaintiff/defense attorneys
bullet Key elements both attorneys must prove to win.

Mr. Constantine "Dean" G. Nickas is a Defense Attorney with the firm Wicker Smith whose attorneys have expertise in a wide range of practice areas.

 

Plaintiff Attorney
Mr. William Dean is a successful Plaintiff Attorney and managing partner with the firm Ford & Dean, specializing in medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, wrongful death, catastrophic injury and heinous sexual abuse.

Course Description:

 

The Forensic Nurse and the Medical Examiner.

This presentation will discuss the medical examiner and coroner system in USA, the determination of cause and manner of death, salient features of forensic autopsy vs. standard autopsy, the role of forensic autopsy in the determination of the cause and manner of death,  and explore the pitfalls of forensic autopsy.

Speaker Information

Dr. Joshua A. Perper was born in Romania and attended medical school and received his law degree in Jerusalem. He completed his post graduate studies in  forensic pathology at Johns Hopkins University and his residency in  forensic pathology at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Baltimore Maryland.  From 1982 until 1994 he was the coroner of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. In 1994 he moved to sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he has been and still is the Chief Medical examiner for Broward County.

Risk Management and Florida Law in Critical Care Setting

This presentation will review Florida Statutes in the critical care arena, reviewing the competency process and criteria in policies and procedures that could be troublesome if not understood or followed appropriately.  The presentation will also bring an awareness of standards formulated by professional nursing organizations, review real-life experiences of misinterpretations that have resulted in litigation, and discuss how to prevent future errors or harm
